Block play is wonderful in so many ways. It increases fine motor and cognitive skills while allowing children to build their creativity and sense of self-concept. However, there are limitations to what your average block can do. While blocks like Lego or Duplo lock together and get around limitations like balance and gravity, I strive to avoid using brightly colored plastic toys made of artificial materials here at Sunshine Dayhome. However, a new product recently came out that changes everything - Tegu magnetic wooden blocks.
Saxon got a new set for Christmas, and here he is exploring the possibilities with his friend Maddex. The set came with pictoral ideas of five different ways for building with the blocks, and the children were able to come up with unlimited other options to make the play fun, creative, and challenging. Though I think this is the first time I've ever put in a plug for any specific play item, these definitely deserve a mention. Good idea for an upcoming holiday or birthday? I think so - and so do they!
