Thanksgiving

While I strongly focus on keeping our creative efforts open-ended and process-oriented, it is fun to have a cute seasonal craft to take sometimes, that actually resembles something your parent might recognize! So, this week, we all sat down together with some paint, glue, and feathers, to make these adorable little turkeys.

The first step was making our paper tubes red, and the children were concentrating very hard on this step. I love crafts which use up household items that would otherwise simply be recycled or discarded. Luckily, I had the foresight to plan enough time for them to mostly dry before we started in with the glue!

And the final step - getting the face and those feathers on. This was an adventure, as I knew it would be the hardest part, especially for the youngest in our crew. As you saw, those eyes are pretty tiny! But they all managed it, with the exception of our under-two little guy, Dylan. Nixon's face slid around a little bit, so I helped re-orient it a couple of times, and everyone did a great job with their feathers. I am learning that our creative activities sometimes go more smoothly if I place the glue, and this proved to be quite smart here, because it gave a clear idea of where the eyes, beak, and feathers might end up. The children were so proud of their creations, the parents were pleased, and we can all have a nice bright centerpiece for this Thanksgiving weekend!
